I have worked in the automotive industry for 38 years, having worked all over the world for some of the most prestigious and largest manufacturers in the world. I am a trained engineer who started life rebuilding performance engines.
The service department is a fast paced and exciting place to work, we have highly trained and exceptional people who work within it. There is a great focus on teamwork and commitment to give outstanding customer service.
The work is of a technical nature, and it needs people with a real flair for problem solving and the ability to use their initiative.
To become a motor vehicle technician you will need to be good at problem-solving and finding faults. The work now is varied between mechanical and electronics, so having good IT skills is equally required.
To be a great Service Advisor you need to have a good attention to detail, however a must have skill is to be a great communicator with excellent inter personal skills.
To work in the warranty department within service you need a very keen eye for detail. As well as being very process driven and able to communicate well with others.
